New Health and Safety “Body of Knowledge” Resource

I wanted to share with you a website that I think will be a great resource to you, especially if you are searching for anything related to health, safety and environmental topics.  The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) unveiled a new ‘Safety, Health and Environmental Body of Knowledge’ (BOK) tool at its recent Leadership Conference for ASSE members. The tool is a compilation of occupational safety, health and environmental (SH&E) information in one searchable, interactive on-line database which aims to provide the safety profession, businesses, communities and more the information they need when it comes to SH&E.

As a member and committee chairperson of the ASSE’s Health and Wellness Branch I am excited to see a professional association bring all of the knowledge of their members as well as from outside organizations and non-member experts in one website.  I’ve “Googled” many times for information on a wide variety of EHS topics which brings me a list of hundreds and thousands of possible sites to visit.  This is great, except that I need to take the time to sort through the all the sites to find out if the information is what I wanted, and more importantly, that the information is valid and reliable.  Before any information is posted on the BOK, it is reviewed to be just that—valid, reliable and trustworthy.  This will save me and many others time in searching for information.

The BOK is relatively new and the amount of information and resources contained is just beginning.  More and more information will be added over the next year which will make this site a valued resource.  Take the time to bookmark this site and register to be a user.  ASSE members get full access to all of the information but even nonmembers are given a significant amount of access.
